In Magic Maze a group of four heroes have lost all of their belongings. In order to continue on their adventures they decide to rob the local shopping mall. It is your job as the player(s) to formulate the plan and help them to steal the equipment and escape. The catch? You can't speak to one another!
Each character is given a card with an action on it that only they can perform, so you need to keep an eye on the character pawns and what everyone else is doing to make sure you make the right move at the right moment. To make matters worse, each mission is set against a timer.
I played this with two friends at the weekend and it was a fantastic amount of fun. Particularly because my plan was different to everyone else. This led to lost of hard stares and exasperated breathing but in the end we just managed it before the time ran out. Each 'mission' of magic maze introduces a new obstacle or rule so your first six games are all about learning the rules. This is a great way to learn the game as you learn by doing. The game can be played solo of as a group of eight. All I can say is that if it was challenging with three I expect eight would be chaos (in a good way) with people all trying to implement their own robbery. Magic Maze truly deserves it's Spiel de Jahre (game of the year nomination) and if you haven't given it a try yet it's well worth your time.
